Welcome to Geoconferences (WA) Inc
Geoconferences (WA) Inc. was incorporated in 1987. This non-profit organisation comprises committed volunteers dedicated to the promotion of geoscience, in particular Precambrian geology, by arranging conferences, symposia and other meetings. Excess funds are used to develop the careers of young geoscientists, mainly through the provision of travel grants.
Meetings presented by Geoconferences include Kalgoorlie '93 and Kalgoorlie '97, as well as the 3rd and 4th International Archaean Symposia in 1990 and 2001, respectively, and hosting SEG 2004: Predictive Mineral Discovery Under Cover in September-October 2004. Kalgoorlie '07 was held in Kalgoorlie in 2007. The 5IAS will be held in Perth in 2010.

Geoconferences Sponsored AIG Bursary
Geoconferences (WA) Inc is sponsorsing an annual bursary of $1500 for a student engaged in magmatic sulphides research.
The Australian Institute of Geoscientists provides bursaries for both undergraduate and postgraduate students studying at Australian universities. Applicants must be current members of AIG (including Student Members).
The Bursary Program began in 2001 to mark the 20th Anniversary of the AIG, and since then between four and eight bursaries have been awarded every year. The AIG Bursaries are funded by the AIG and by the generous sponsorship of individuals and organisations.
There are two types of bursary available each year to geoscience students who are AIG Members and are currently engaged in either full or part time studies:
- Undergraduate Bursaries are available to honours students and may be used to help offset the costs of completing an honours thesis. Bursaries may be used in any way by recipients.
- Postgraduate Bursaries must be used by applicants to undertake an activity that will enhance their postgraduate studies and would otherwise not be possible to undertake without the contribution made by bursary funds (e.g. travel to attend a conference to present research results or work with prominent geoscientists in a particular field).
All bursary recipients are required to submit either a copy of their Honours thesis abstract or a report outlining the results of their funded activity for inclusion on the Geoconferences website.
